1. Executive Summary: The Investment Highlight
The global construction industry is facing a historic transformation: The transition to sustainable, ecological building materials often collides with strict legal fire protection requirements. Natural fiber insulation materials (such as wood fiber and cellulose) in particular exhibit a critical smoldering and after-glow behavior under prolonged heat exposure, which severely limits their use in higher building classes.
We have developed a patented, market-ready technology that solves this fundamental problem. Our innovative formulation reliably prevents smoldering and after-glow, elevating ecological insulation materials to the level of flame-retardant building materials (B1).
Goal: Sale of the IP portfolio or strategic licensing to established manufacturers in the building materials industry.
Market Advantage: Opening up new market segments in higher building classes (GK 4 and 5).
IP Protection: Granted patents for both core inventions in several European countries, as well as granted and advanced international patent applications.
2. The Market Challenge: The "Smoldering Barrier" in Ecological Building
In modern timber and interior construction, the demand for ecological insulation materials is growing rapidly. Traditional insulation materials based on wood fibers or cellulose are treated with standard fire retardants to prevent rapid open ignition.
However, a serious technical hurdle exists:
- The Smoldering Problem: Under extreme or prolonged heat exposure—as simulated in the standardized 10-minute fire shaft smoldering test—untreated or insufficiently protected natural fibers exhibit critical after-glow behavior.
- The Consequence: This smoldering can lead to the complete destruction of the insulation inside the building component. This officially limits the use of such insulation materials to lower building classes (up to GK 3).
3. The Technological Solution
Our developed technology closes this gap in industrial fire protection. By incorporating a special, highly efficient flame-retardant combination into the natural fiber matrix, dangerous after-glow is systematically suppressed.
- Mode of Action: Under heat exposure, the system forms a highly effective protective layer that mechanically and chemically slows down the spread of fire while effectively blocking the penetration of thermal energy into the interior of the board.
- Process Integration: The additives can be seamlessly integrated into existing industrial manufacturing processes for wood fiber insulation boards as well as into the production of blown-in cellulose insulation.
Versatility: The technology has been successfully validated for:
- Wood fiber insulation boards
- Blown-in cellulose insulation
- Flame-retardant plywood, MDF, and particle boards
- Flame-retardant cardboard packaging and flame-retardant plastics
4. Validation, Laboratory Results & Visual Evidence
The performance of the technology has been successfully proven in extensive test series and by official institutions:
- Test Series at MPA NRW: Successful execution of preliminary smoldering tests at the Material Testing Office (MPA) NRW in Erwitte.
- Industrial Test Series: Validated smoldering tests in direct cooperation with renowned manufacturers (concentrations of 3%, 5%, and 7%).
